ERF-5W™ Series (Single & Dual)

D5W Banner

The new ERF-5W™ filter takes Pole/Zero’s MINI-ERF® technology to a higher level of RF power handling, with 5W (average) in-band power handling, and covering the entire military tactical radio tuning range of 30-520 MHz in one integrated package. This tunability is accomplished by the use of three poles of selectivity, multiple internal tunable filters along with high performance PIN diode RF band select switches. The tunable filters are designed to minimize size and power consumption, while maintaining high RF power handling and linearity characteristics. Serial control is accomplished via a standard Serial Peripheral Interface (SPI)-based bus.

Note 1:

Out of band RF power handling refers to signals thatare at least twenty percent (20%) removed from the tuned center frequency andis frequency dependent: 5W signals applied between 30 and 75 MHz, 8W from 75 to 175 MHz, and 10 W from 175 to 520 MHz

The following plot(s) illustrate approximate performance:

General Information
The 5W-ERF requires a single +5vdc analog supply and a +1.65 to +5.5vdc digital supply. These supply voltages should be adequately filtered as noise present on these pins will influence the RF signal purity.

Notes: 1. First number indicates maximum inband power levels and second number indicates maximum out of band RF power levels either in CW or composite peak for multi-tones.
Digital Interface Information

With the “PAR/NSER” input low, the unit is in serial control mode. When it is high, the filter is in parallel control mode. Maximum input data rate is 7Mhz. In either mode, 2 bytes of data are required. One selects the internal frequency band and the other selects the tuneword (251 tune frequencies within each band). All data input pins are CMOS/TTL compliant. Logic high/low levels are as follows:

Symbol Parameter VCCD Minimum Maximum Unit
High-level input voltage
1.65Vto 1.95V VCCD x 0.65 VCCD
2.3 V to 2.7 V 1.7
3 V to 3.6 V
